PROTESTORS FROM THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION GO TO TRIAL
The Battle Continues

WHAT: Press Conference

WHERE: Criminal Justice Center, Corner of 13th Street and Filbert

WHEN: Wednesday November 8, 2000 at 4:00pm

WHO: Lawyer from the Public Defenders Office, Defendant and Community Organizers

(Philadelphia, PA) Today we mark the beginning of the mass trials of over 200 protestors arrested at the Republican National Convention. At the Convention, protesters voiced their disappointment that both political parties were not addressing issues surrounding the United States Criminal INjustice system. Two months after the Convention and right after the elections, our politicians continue to ignore the protestors' voices. Undeterred and arrested on trumped-up and phony charges, protestors and their lawyers will continue to highlight the inequalities of the American Criminal INjustice System even if our politicians continue to ignore them.

During the Republican National Convention, thousands of people took to the streets demanding:
FREEDOM FOR MUMIA ABU-JAMAL AND ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS
ABOLISH THE DEATH PENALTY
ABOLISH THE PRISON INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX
STOP POLICE TERROR
END THE CORPORATE WAR ON THE POOR
POWER TO OUR COMMUNITIES
As protesters head to trial, they reissue these demands and reaffirm their commitment to protest until our voices are heard. They stand in solidarity with all people that have been brutalized, exploited and criminalized by the Criminal INjustice system and forgotten by the politicians.
