Just prior to the initiation of trials for hundreds of RNC defendants, the week of October 23 saw a rallying call by a variety of community leadership to "drop all charges" for the RNC defendants. This call comes from local clergy and labor as well as US Congress and over eighty local and national organizations.
Delivery of these letters to the District Attorney's office on October 24th was hampered by the fact that 10-15 of the DA's security forces refused entry to a group representing the supporters, forcing them to go to City Hall and negotiate delivery of the letters with a member of the City Council (see 10/23/00 press release).
