When: Tuesday, August 8th at 4:00 p.m. Where: Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, 1213 Race Street, Center City Philadelphia Background: For the past two months the city of Philadelphia has been in regular dialogue with Jules Epstein, David Rudovsky, and Paul Messing from the R2K Philadelphia legal team. Once arrests began, however, the city shut down all possibility for dialogue. The City of Philadelphia is currently violating the constitutional and civil rights of the roughly 450 people arrested during the protests of the Republican National Convention. As of today, 325 individuals arrested remain in jail. 149 have been on hunger strike, many for six days, and will be joined tomorrow by at least 30 more women held at PICC. They are all demanding the immediate release of all political detainees, standing in solidarity with the 36 activists unjustly charged with felonies. On Monday, only 16 persons, all charged with misdemeanors, were deemed eligible for ROR without bail -- the majority of petitions for bail reduction were not heard.
